In the last ten years, rose gold has been becoming more and more popular. This material is trendy and gorgeous. People have been choosing rose gold for kitchen hardware, hair color, decorative accents, and jewelry! Rose gold was even one of the top wedding colors, bridesmaid dress colors, and nail polish for the last three years. Rose gold also had an honorable mention in a number of iconic events. For example, many celebrities were spotted wearing rose gold on the red carpet for movie openings, on the festival stages during concerts, and even as a touch of sparkle when they hit the beach.

In 2016, Rose Gold was named the Pantone Color of the Year. This was a change from the preference of white gold that dominated the jewelry market in the 1990’s and early 2000’s. In the same year that rose gold was the color of the year, Apple decided to get in on the trend too. The Apple executives chose to release a color option for their iPhones where the newest devices would come in rose gold. According to experts, the rose gold was one of the most popular color releases with over thirty percent of purchasers opting for the rose gold option. How interesting!

The rose gold has a slightly copper appearance and glimmers in the light of the sun. Choosing rose gold will make a statement and elevate even the most casual look. Rose Gold is known by a number of names. Originally, the metal was called Russian gold. In the nineteenth century, a jewelry designer for the powerful Russian czars used this metal. He would create beautiful works of art for the royal family to wear or use the metal in the delicate faberge eggs. Think you can sport the same type fo metal that the royal family used to wear. This is a great idea if you love Russian culture or history. Or if you or your fiancé have a tie to Russia.

While the names might be different, the color is usually almost identical to other pieces of rose gold due to the combination of raw materials. Now, some people know this material as pink gold or red gold. While this makes sense because the metal has a pinkish red hue when compared to traditional yellow gold, it is not actually 100% gold. It is actually a mix of yellow gold & copper. And sometimes, metal workers add a bit of silver to the material to give off a slightly violet undertone.

One of the qualities that makes rose gold interesting to jewelry lovers is the fact that rose gold does not tarnish over the years. Instead, it can become redder or darker as the years pass. However, this is due to the chemical properties of copper and not because of the gold. The color will darken and create a beautiful vintage antique look that many come to love.  However, the jewelry can become discolored if you don’t wash the jewelry regularly. This is because lotion, sun screen, and skin care products build up on the outside of the jewelry and discolor the jewelry. However, with regular cleaning this should not happen. Also, while you can shower, bathe, and swim with this type of wedding ring. We do recommend not doing this often and leaving your ring on the counter before stepping into the bath.

Rose gold is a modern twist on a classic gold ring. Many women are turning to rose gold for jewelry pieces, wedding rings, and even shoes. If your fiancé is choosing a rose gold wedding band, it would be a nice gesture to match your ring to hers. Many couples prefer to have matching metals in their rings as a symbol of their love together.

According to tradition, white gold signifies a friendship and is often given as a gift by friends. Yellow gold is supposed to represent faithfulness and honoring one’s commitment to their spouse. However, the meaning of rose gold is a little up in the air. While there is no one true meaning, according to traditionalists. Modern jewelry lovers have decided that rose gold represents love. And it is a great choice for a wedding ring. It is also a great material to consider for a gift.
