Tungsten Rings
Did you know, “Tungsten is actually the Swedish word for "heavy stone”. This is an apt descriptor because this metal is incredibly dense and strong. However, unlike many many strong metals, tungsten is extremely malleable so it can be molded into various different things. For example, many engineers like working with tungsten because it can create delicate shapes that hold up to daily wear. It is also a wonderful metal for airplane parts because it does not change with air exposure. Even up in the air this metal remains in perfect shape. It does not corrode, rust, or change due to the elements.
Why is this a great choice for a ring?
Tungsten is a great component for jewelry because it is scratch resistant. This metal is quickly becoming a strong contender for men’s favorite rings. This is because men do not have to be gentle with the ring in order for it to stay looking great for years to come. Also because of the high density of the metal, it feels weighty. So if you are looking for a ring that feels solid on your hand this might be the right choice for you.
When choosing a ring, you want to choose a piece that you will want to wear for a long time. One reason why tungsten is a great option is because it is about ten times stronger than the hardness of eighteen karat gold. Wow! So no matter how rugged your lifestyle is, you know your ring can keep up. Just make sure to live a life that holds up to your ring!
Who would like a Tungsten ring?
If you love spending time at the gym pumping iron, Tungsten might be right for you. We all know the feeling of trying to get that extra set and just not making it. And sometimes, things can go very wrong when you are pushing your body to the limit. If it gets a little hairy at the gym and plates start falling, you never have to worry about your ring. Other metals would squish under the weight of all of those pounds but not tungsten. And if there is ever a real problem (think headed to the emergency room with a crushed hand,) you can easily remove this ring. The Emergency room doctor can just use vice grip pliers to break the ring off of your finger.
Tungsten Ring Design Choices
One of the best things about tungsten rings is that you can apply a wide selection of different polishes to the metal. So, we can offer you a large selection of Tungsten rings that have been polished with different colors and have a selection of ornamental design work. No matter the jewelry that you are looking for, our friendly staff members will help you find the perfect piece that you will cherish for years to come.
Metal Allergies and Tungsten
While we think Tungsten rings are the perfect choice for everyone, there are some medical reasons to avoid choosing a Tungsten ring. For one, if you suffer from a metal allergy, you might want to consider a different type of ring. When tungsten is changed from its original form to a form that jewelers can work with, we add a small amount of nickel so it can be properly molded and worked with. If you have a severe metal allergy, this small amount of nickel might set off an allergy attack. However, this small amount will not turn your finger green in any circumstance (unless you want to color your finger with a green sharpie- No worries, we are not here to judge.) If you are worried about any metal allergies, please reach out to our friendly staff members. We will point you in the direction of a large selection of rings that will look great on you and be mindful of your allergy.
Chemical properties of Tungsten
Tungsten is noted on the periodic table of elements with the letter W. This is because the W stands for Wolfram, which is another name used to describe tungsten. German scientists, and a number of other scientists in Western Europe, still call Tungsten Wolfram to this day. It also has a chemical number of seventy four and an atomic weight of 183.84 daltons.
